Jesus told his disciples in John 16:33, “In the world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” In this world, there is trouble. We do things we wish we hadn’t. Things happen to us that never should have. We carry generational messes that are not our own. Lots of troubles – some big and some small.
When we get hurt, we react. We can build self-protective walls around us so that no one ever hurts us again. Sometimes we think that God abandoned us, so we rebel in various ways. We get angry, vengeful, bitter, and numb. We sometimes cover the deep hurt inside by pretending to be hyper spiritual.
When healing comes to the deep hurts and wounds of the past, it’s as if the “roots” of issues are pulled up and long-term freedom can come. We recognize the way negative experiences in our past have robbed us from experiencing fullness in the present and of our future. Once wounds are healed, the enemy quickly leaves and lies are more easily overcome.
