Praying Through Resistance
A Course in the people of prayer series
Welcome to our “Praying Through Resistance” course! As you walk through each class at your own pace, we believe the Holy Spirit has words of encouragement, inspiration, and instruction for you as you seek to learn how to pray through resistance. To get the most out of your experience, we recommend that you watch the classes in order and work through the associated reflection exercises to apply what you have gleaned.
Good Father, come and speak to each person as they take this course. You have truth to reveal, wisdom of which you desire for us to grab hold. Open our hearts and minds to receive from You. We come with holy expectation, anticipating You moving and acting in our lives. In Your Name We Pray, Amen.
Course Classes
Class 1
Recognizing the Resistance
When resistance pushes back against your prayers—whether through spiritual attack, emotional weariness, difficult circumstances, or personal doubt—it’s not a sign that God has abandoned you, but often proof that breakthrough is near. By recognizing the source of resistance and pressing on in faith, you position yourself to see God’s power move, even in ways and timing you didn’t expect. Reflection Exercise
Class 2
Wrestling in Prayer: When Answers Don't Come Easily
When answers don’t come easily, “Wrestling in Prayer” calls us to persist in faith like Jacob, the persistent widow, and Jesus in Gethsemane—clinging to God not out of doubt, but desperate trust. In the struggle, God is not only working on the situation but transforming us into people marked by intimacy, perseverance, and unshakable hope. Reflection Exercise
Class 3
Spiritual Warfare and Resistance
When prayer meets spiritual resistance, we are not powerless victims but fully equipped warriors—armed with God’s truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, His Word, and the authority of Christ to stand firm and push back the enemy. By staying alert, declaring Scripture, and persevering in prayer, we turn the enemy’s attacks into opportunities for victory, knowing we are on the winning side. Reflection Exercise
Class 4
Lies We Battle in Seasons of Resistance
In seasons of resistance, the enemy plants subtle lies to choke our faith, distort God’s character, and tempt us to abandon prayer—but when we recognize and uproot these lies with God’s truth, our perseverance becomes unstoppable. This class will equip you to expose those weeds, guard your heart, and press through in prayer until you see the harvest God has promised. Reflection Exercise
Class 5
Breakthrough Prayer: Stepping into Victory
Breakthrough prayer is not about instant results but about persistent faith—pressing in through worship, fasting, and prayer until God’s answer comes, just as Hannah, Elijah, and the Early Church did. No matter how long the wait, you can stand in Christ’s already-won victory, celebrating small wins along the way and trusting that the God of breakthroughs is moving on your behalf.
